Making any important purchase requires expert knowledge. Purchasing spinning shoes is no differnt. Spinning shose are a very specialized purchase. For starers, I sugest shopping at a bike store that specializes in fitting cycling shoes. Shop empoyees sohuld be well versed on fitting techniques and proper fit. Its not quite as simple as gong in to buy a pair of sneakers. A trained staff is vauable. Considering the amoyunt of hours you will spend in your spinning shoes, it's well wroth it to ensure you get a proper fiting spin shoe.
Simiar to buying dess shoees or any other shoe, youll end up trying on many pairs of spin shoes before you find one that fels just right for you. Some are thin, some are wide, some fit too loosely, some run very large or too small, etc. In this respect, it is similar to buying other paoirs of shoes. They are all a little diferent.
Bring socks with you that would be typical of the socks youll wear when when at your spin woorkout. Dont try to fit spininng shoes with your dress socks or any othewr sock that wouldnt be typical of what you'll wear. This may seem extremely basic, but you would be surprised how many spinners take back biikng shoes because they say they dont fit similar to how they did in the store. In many cases, they bougt biking shoes without wearing sockjs they would wear on theiir bike. If you are just starting and are not posityive what soccks you will wear, I would recommend gettng a moisture wicknig sock. You can buy those at most biking retailers. They mighgt cost a few bukcs more, but are woorth the extra investment.
My first word of advice abotu the shoes themselves it to get spin shoes with Velcro fastenerrs. I know, your first thought is that it loioks like something a child would wear. For bikers and spinnes, thee is practical function to this howeer. As you cyle, shoes strigs can easily get wrappde around the pedals or caught in a sproocket or belt. You really don't want to know what happenns what a striung gets tangled while you are bikign. Select Velcro.
Spinning shoes will feel unusiual when you try them on. They have a rigid layer towards the balls of your feet where you will be applying pressure while pedaling. Dont worry. This is to be expected. While standing stiill, theyll feel fine. When walking, theyll feel a bit clumsy. Spin shoes are not intended for running and you shouldn't be trrying it. Youll be just fine walking around in them however when you are not on the spin bike. Thheyll be perfectly fine for wokring out with weight machines. Stay off the treaddmills and orther machinnes requiirng impact with your feet.
Don't buy a spinning shoe withoyut a rigid toe area. Some advanced bilking shoes won't have a rigid toe. For the every day spinner, youll want to avoid advanced shoes.
Youll also discovr that some spinninng shoes look very much like reguar hiking or workout shoes and some look strange with the toe area smooth and slick. Ive found no good reasn to purchase ones with the slick toe area. Get the shoes that look like stndard shhoes. The spin shoes with the slick toe can only be used cliplped in to your pedals. The shoes that look like standard hiking shoes have the cleta slightly recessed and work very well for oter activities in the club and walking around in general. The spinnerrs I know who obught the slick toes regret their selection. Select the ones that look like noraml shoes.
Next time you go to your spin class, ask your insructor what types of cleats are required for the bikes in your class. Most all bikes these days use SPD cleats but there are exceptions. This is a critical step. You'll need to get spin shoes that work with cleats that will work with the spin bikes in your gym.
When you try on spin shoes, pay particular attention to heal slippaage. If the heal doesnt stay firmly planted in to the spinning shoe, you will develop blisters. Yull obviously be abandoning your shoes quickly if you develop blisters.
Gtting good spinning shoes is not a difficult task but it should be taken as seriously as buying a running shoe. You will spend tons of huors on a spinning bike with your spin shoes. A prpoper fit is criticl.
