Though no major hurricanes hit the United States, the Red Cross remained busy throughout 2009. Nationally they responded to floods, wildfires, a tsunami and the first flu pandemic in forty years. Red Cross staff were deployed around the world to support the nation’s military in locations that included Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait. Thanks to ongoing blood donations, the Red Cross blood services distributed millions of blood products to help patients in hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. And true to their mission of preparedness and prevention, The Red Cross helped millions of people learn First Aid, CPR, proper use of AED and how to swim. They even provided Red Cross training to babysitters and caregivers. Just as they depend on the blood donors who come forward to help, the Red Cross actively seeks people who can donate a car to charity.
