Internet Marketing Software Won't Save You Time

Online marketing and the promotion of websites involves many different tasks, some complex and time-consuming, others simple, but usually still time-consuming. Luckily, there is no shortage of Internet marketing products that can help you automate many repetitive tasks.

Despite what the sales-pages usually promise, the point of such programs is not to save time. That's right, all of these automation programs won't end up really saving you time. Seem counterintuitive?

Well, the thing is that these programs are not about reducing work but rather about leveraging work. In other words, it's not about putting in less effort and getting the same results. It's about getting better results for the same amount of effort.

What I mean with this? Let's have a look at a concrete example:
Among the most popular kinds of Internet marketing tools are articulate distributors. An article distributor is a tool that can submit any article you write to several dozens or even hundreds of different article directories automatically. The benefit of this is easy to see: each article you write will automatically gain much more exposure, get viewed by more people and you also get back links from your resource boxes from many different sites instead of just one.

And surely, a program that submits to hundreds of sites automatically can do so much more quickly than if you were to do it yourself, right? In fact, after the initial setup, entering your article details into the submitter program and setting it off to do its work doesn't take much longer than manually submitting an article just one article directory.

So why do I claim that software like this does not save time?
Quite simply because no one manually submits articles to a hundred different directories. If you're doing manual submissions, you are probably submitting to one directory, perhaps as much as five or ten if you're particularly diligent.

What it comes down to is that no matter how good your automation software is, you still have to take the time to write and submit each article. The bulk of the time isn't usually spent on the writing itself, anyway. So what the software does, is not reduced the time it takes you to write and submit articles but rather leverage the time you already spend writing articles by getting your articles more exposure and your websites more back links.

Same time spent, same amount of effort, but greater results. That's what automation software is really about.
