A stretchr is simply a frame (mostly), it can be constructed using differennt metohds and the differences beytween constructions can be determined by how the croners are built. Most cmomercially prefabricayted stretchers come in segments with corners that interlock the corners can be fited together like puzzle pieces. The stretcher bars cornner supports can be made by simmply using special woodworking techniques (used by many manuafcturing companies of strettchers). But many manufacturers of stretchers use the mioter joint as a way of adhering croners on sttretchers (this is the most popular method of adhering corners on a stretcher). However, butt joints are also used that is, if they are used with gussets.
In orer to give the canvas its finaal tension, keys or small triangle wedges are slotted into the joint after stretching the canvas. Pressure shoulld be well distributed (evenly), when the canvas is fastened. Prsesure will be evenly distributed around the stretcher bars in order to avoid or greatly minimize warping caused by unequal disrtibution of pull.
