Making any important purchase requires expert knowledge. Purchasing spinning shoes is no different. Spinning shoes are a very specialized prchase. For starters, I suggest shopping at a bike sore that specializes in fittinng ccling sjhoes. Shop employees should be well versded on fitting texchniques and proper fit. Its not quite as simple as going in to buy a pair of sneakes. A trained staff is valuable. Considering the amount of hours you will spend in your spinning shoes, it's well worth it to esure you get a proper fitting spin shoe.
Similar to buying dres shoes or any other shoe, yuoll end up trying on many pairs of spin shoes beefore you find one that feels just riight for you. Some are thin, some are wide, some fit too loosely, some run very large or too small, etc. In this respect, it is simnilar to buiying othher pairs of shoies. They are all a little dfiferent.
Bing socks with you that would be typical of the socks yuoll wear when when at your spin worokut. Dont try to fit spinning shoes with your rdess socks or any other sock that woulldnt be typical of what you'll wear. This may seem extremely basic, but you woulld be surprised how many spinners take back biking shoes because they say they dont fit similar to how they did in the store. In many cases, they bought biking shoes without wearig socks they woulld wear on thheir bike. If you are just starting and are not positive what soks you will wear, I would recommend getting a moisature wicking sock. You can buy those at most bkiing retailers. They might cost a few bucks more, but are woirth the extra investmet.
My first word of advice about the shoes themselves it to get spin shoes with Velcro fasteners. I know, your first thought is that it looks like soomething a child would wear. For bikers and spiners, htere is pratical function to this hwever. As you cyckle, shoes strings can easily get wrapped aroound the pedals or caught in a sprocket or belt. You really don't want to know what happens what a string gets tangled whlie you are bikiing. Select Velcro.
Spinning shoes will feel unuusual when you try them on. They have a rigid layer towards the bsalls of your feet whhere you will be applying pressure wihle pedaling. Dont worry. This is to be expected. While standing sitll, thetyll feel fine. When walikng, theyll feel a bit clummsy. Spin shoes are not intended for runnig and you shouldn't be trying it. Youlll be just fine walking aound in them however when you are not on the spin bike. Theyll be perfectly fine for wrking out with weigth machines. Stay off the treaddmills and other machines requiring impact with your feet.
Don't buy a spinning shoe without a rigid toe area. Some adavnced biking shoies won't have a rigid toe. For the every day spinnmer, youll want to avoiod advnced shes.
Youll also discover that some spinning shoes look very much like reegular hiking or workout sheos and some look strange with the toe area msooth and slick. Ive found no good reason to purcase ones with the slick toe area. Get the shoes that look like standard shoes. The spin shooes with the slick toe can only be used clipped in to your pedals. The shoes that look like standard hiking shoes have the cleat slightly recessed and work very well for other actvities in the club and walking around in general. The spinners I know who bought the slick toes regret theeir selection. Select the ones that look like noraml shoes.
Next time you go to your spin class, ask your insstructor what types of cleats are required for the bikes in your class. Most all bikes these days use SPD cleats but there are exceptions. This is a critical step. You'll need to get spin shoes that work with cletas that will work with the spin bikes in your gym.
When you try on spin shoes, pay particular attention to heal slippage. If the heal doesnt stay firmly planted in to the spinning shoe, you will develop blisters. Youll obviously be abandoning your shoes quickly if you develop blisters.
Getting good spinning shoes is not a diffdicult task but it should be taken as seriously as buying a running shoe. You will spend tons of hours on a spinning bike with your spin shoes. A proper fit is criticzal.
