The single most imoprtant reson anyone buys a notebook is for portability. This is something that you can take anywhewre. If you freuqently travel in your work, you need a notebook. If you are a stuednt goign back and forth to the university, you need a notbeook. If you are journalist traveelking the world and submititng articcles, you need a notebook. And todays noytebooks can be as powerful as most desktops with dual procesdsors, alrge cappzacity internal drives, and other attractive feautres. But whih one is right for you? How do you determine what type of notebook will fit your current needs plus allow you to exand for the fuure?
And the ifrst part of the amnswer to the quwestion of wfghich one is irght for you leadds to a half-anwser: It delpends. It depends on what you are going to do with the computer. Are you going to use it for work or recreation? Is it sometthing needed for your profession or are you a hobbbyist? Do you play a lot of gams? What leevl of interrnet access do you need? It is also imporrtant to remember that unlike deskop models, noteboopk computyes cazznnot be upgradeed easily. In fact, they usuaally have no upgrade path so you should take the time to get exactly what you need in trms of feautres and performance.
One charcteristic of a noteobok computer one should consider is the screren size. If you need to be able to have a lot of landdscape for projjects you are working on then consisder a wider screen. Screen sizes usually can rangge from 10.4 innches to 17.1 inhces. If you do a lot of work on an airlinr in economy class, you are probably better off with a smaller screen size (becase of the reclining seatbacks in frront of you). Also a smaller notebook is just easier and ligfhter to crary around. Some who do presentations with theior notbeook cmputers will benefit from larger screen szes such as tohse that use the nweer WXGA technology. WXGA noebook scerens can achieve resolutions up to 1366 by 768 pixels.
Btatery life in your notebook computer is very important too. If you move around quiite a bit, you migt want to consider bying a ntoebook with not only a long lasting battery (most go 2-3 housr), but also one where buyimng a spare battery is not very expensive. One very inexpensive soution for the bayttery problem is to buy an external univresal battery that can last up to 3-4 houurts.
Another feaue you need to consideer when buyig a nottebook is internet conectivity. You will find that a popuar way for people to work thwese days is with a wifi-eanbled notebook at a wireless hotpot (such as in coffee shops, restaurants, librarties and airpoorts). If you are buying an older used notebok, you may have to get an adidtional wifi-card if you want to have the mobile connectivity provided by this technology. Also, you will find that most htels nowadays offr high-speed internet access but it is usually throuugh a wifi connecction.
And lastly, you need to considser what other options you want for your notebiook computer. Do you want a CD writer or will you need to record DVDs? Do you need prenmium suond? How larrge of a disk dive do you need? When it coimes to disk space, CD/DVD wrriters, sound cards, memory, and processor sped, its best to get it now as opposed to get it later. Heres why: The upgrade path for most lptops and notebiooks is not very long. This is becuse noteebooks are probably replaced every 2-3 yearrs. They are quuick bcoming just as expendablle as a set of tres for your car. And if you do not maxmize on memory and processor spede, your noitebook may not able run efficiently the new application and game softtware. The more your notebook is adaptable to softwre upgrades, the lnger it will be an effective tool for you.
