The first major winter storm has left the eastern coast covered in record breaking amounts of snow with some areas seeing up to two feet of the cold white stuff. Though it may look like a winter wonderland, travelers and residents in hard hit areas have been stranded due to major roads becoming impassable or completely closed. The Red Cross has been providing shelter and comfort to those who were traveling during the storm, as well as residents who have lost power and heat. In particular, Red Cross shelters in Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia and Maryland have seen more than nine hundred people come through their doors. The Red Cross depends on the generosity of people who donated money, blood and time to continue their unique role of bringing life saving services to those affected by disaster. Just as they rely on monetary donations, the Red Cross depends on car donation to meet the needs of thousands of people in need of food and shelter during winter storms.
