Imagine for a moment that you’re in the middle of your weekly mountain bike ride and you’re showing good results. But suddenly you notice that the tires of your bike have become already too soft and it influences your biking. E advice is the only one – every cyclist should have a bicycle pump. A bicycle pump is one of the basic tools that every cyclist should always include in their kit when riding any of the kinds of bikes.

The cycle pump is used to inflate a tire. There’re different kinds of pumps, however a good cyclist should obligatory have two kinds of pumps. The first kind of pump is portable that can be taken into the trip and used when it’s needed. And the second kind of pump should be safely stored at the garage or at home of a cyclist and be used when there’s a need to inflate all tires of the bike.

It’s extremely important to know how to choose the right kind of pump, particularly for a professional cyclist. No professional cyclist will want to purchase low-quality pump for his bike. Don’t forget that a soft tire can influence the performance of even a professional cyclist. So, in case if a bad situation happens in the middle of your road, the only thing you’ll need to do is to inflate the soft tire with your excellent pump. Then you can easily and quickly continue your trip. However, in order to purchase a high-quality pump, you’ll need to consider several important tips.

The valves of a pump

A pump may have a great variety of valves, so it’s important to consider the right valve before using the pump for it to fit the tire. So, there’re various kinds of valves. You can find the Schrader that’s very similar to the ones used for cars, while the presta is long and slender. Some pumps require a specific valve head, while other pumps have interchangeable heads. It’s recommended to purchase pumps in combination with interchangeable valves. This pump can be used for a number of different tires, even if someone asks for your help. The only thing you’ll have to do is to change the valve.

The floor pump

You’ll probably appreciate the pump that is easy in usage and can inflate the tire in a few seconds. This is a metal floor pump that is usually rather long and looks very classic. N order to inflate the tire you’ll need just to step on the metal pieces making the pump immovable. Then it’s necessary to push the pumping mechanism up and down in, thus applying air and pressure to the tire. This is in fact a classic variant. There’s also the one that’s cranked using the feet. It allows to adjust the pressure before pushing the crank with your feet.

If you’re getting ready for a long bicycle ride take a frame pump with you. It offers a great number of advantages. It’s compact and fits in to the frame of the pump with no issues. However, because of its small size it will fill the tire with air and pressure slower in comparison with the regular size pumps.

Another kind of pump suitable for road is the mini pump. This kind of pump is also very small, so it needs more time to fill the tire with. However, if you don’t have space for the usage of a frame pump, it’s a perfect choice for you.

The CO2 inflators are beloved by many cyclists as they are fast and easy to use. But it’s better to have a backup inflator or a frame pump as well.
