It’s Friday the 13th today and what makes this 13th even more unique is the fact that it’s the third time in 2009 that the 13th has fallen on a Friday. According to experts that’s the most times it can happen in one year. For centuries the 13th has been a day when the superstitious would rearrange their day’s plans, even going as far as to change travel plans or stay home.
University of Delaware mathematician Thomas Fernsler, having spent numerous years studying the number 13, has said that even Franklin Delano Roosevelt would not take a train trip on the 13th. A story told by his then personal secretary recounts how the president would order the train to leave the station before midnight on the 12th or after midnight on the morning of the 14th. Ironically FDR died in 1945 on the 12th of April. Superstitions can be fun, but during tough economic times organizations like Goodwill® depend on people who donate a car to charity to keep their important programs available. Vehicle donation has helped many organizations offer vital services to communities across the country. When you see an ad or billboard that is campaigning for auto donation, you can make it a lucky day for people who depend on Goodwill’s® employment, training or career services.
