For New York City residents and marathon runners, November 1 marks the day of the annual New York City Marathon. The first New York City marathon began in 1970 with a mere one hundred twenty-seven runners eager to participate in the 26.2 mile race. Today thousands of people come to New York City to run the marathon. Many will aim for a specific time to finish it in and many are happy if they can just finish the marathon. The New York City marathon is not only about speed but about endurance. This year the CEO of the Red Cross’ New York chapter, Theresa Bischoff, will head Team Red Cross as they make their way to the finish line. Their goal is raise at least $50,000 to support the vital work of the Red Cross. Just as important to the Red Cross as monetary fundraisers are the people who donate a car to charity.
