As first reported by TVLine Ladd will first appear as Sarah's estranged mother Emma in episode 8, which should air in January 2012. As with all the paternal relationships in this show, this looks like it will be a complicated and strained one thanks to her abandonment of Sarah when she was young. The pair haven't seen each other in five years and it is unclear as to what kind of background Sarah's mother will have, though I think we can expect a shady element. Sarah has been reluctant to open up about her past and I'm sure that this will be further explored and explained when Ladd appears.
