For non-profit organizations that are trying to find ways to go green, one step they can take easily is to cut down on the amount of energy they use. Addressing their usage of lighting is the first and most practical step they can take. Everyone knows how much electricity is used throughout the day but for an office thirty-five percent or more of the office’s energy use is from electric lights. Start by replacing incandescent light bulbs with energy efficient fluorescent bulbs. If you have fluorescent tubes in your office, most likely they are older ‘T12′ tubes and they should be replaced with the newer ‘T8′ bulbs. Just simply replacing these tubes means you will be using up to forty percent less power. During daylight hours it’s important to make as much use of natural light as possible.
