There’s a saying that goes something like this: self confidence breeds success. While it sounds a little cheesy, I think it’s pretty true. If you want to succeed you need to focus not only on building your own confidence and skills but helping other people build theirs. Here are five tips that will help you do that.
1. Figure out what you have to offer. In general, you need to have a balance between giving and taking in your life. By figuring out what you have to offer and how your skills and ideas can help add value to others you’ll not only become more balanced in life but also more appreciated in general. Every person on the planet has something to offer, you just need to figure out what it is.
2. Work on improving yourself. Life is about change. If you’re not changing then you’re dead. You should always be striving to build new skills, gain new knowledge and develop new relationships. Doing this will not only increase your value to others but also your self confidence as you master skill after skill.
3. Help others by valuing them and their contributions. People like to be needed and appreciated. If someone you meet does something that impacts you – whether it’s saving your life or bagging your groceries – appreciate them. Thank them and let them know that you value their help.
4. Get rid of the negativity. It’s true that most people are our own worse critics. I know it’s definitely true for me. But negative self talk is a great way to bring on failure. Practice positive self talk and affirmations to improve your self confidence. Do one thing a day that you’re good at to reinforce the idea that you do have skills and knowledge that is useful to yourself and others.
5. Respect yourself. You wouldn’t, or at least shouldn’t, treat others badly so don’t do it to yourself. Treat yourself well both physically and mentally and that well-being will carry over into all areas of your life. Give yourself rewards and pats on the back for a job well done and don’t dwell on your mistakes and failures. Everyone has them. Learn from them and move forward. Become your own best cheerleader.
And finally, remember believe in your value and others will too!
