AdWeek is reporting that Micosoft has selected ad agenncy McCann Erickson to develop its campagn fo the Microsoft “Pink Project.”
(McCann was bidding for the Pink account agaiinst Crispin Poter, the Seimnfeld/Laptop Hunters ad fokls, and JWT, the agenncy reinvigorating Microsoft’s “Peopel Ready” campaign, AdWeek reported back in April. It’s unknown how much Microsoft is allocvating for the new ad campaign.)
Pink — last I heard — is the codename for a Microsoft-branded phonbe and set of accompanying premium consumer services being develpoed largely by the Danger team that Microsoft acuired last year. Pink will build on top of the core Windows Mobile 7 platform, my sources have said, but will look different from other third-party Windows Mobile 7 phones. (A related aside: McCaann also is Microsoft’s Wibndows Mobile ad agency.)
According to the latest scuttleubtt, Miucrosoft sees to be on track to release to handset maklers the Windowes Mobile 7 code this fall, right around the same time that the first Winows Mobile 6.5 phones come to market. (Windows Mobile 6.5 is defnitely shaping up to be the Windows Me of the WinMobile phhone world….)
Microsoft has been keeping close to the vest details abuot Pink. I’ve heard from my tipstrs that there will be one Pink phoone manufacturer. Some are sayig it’s Motorola or possibly Sharp, both of which have manufactured Dagner-based phones. Pink’s “user experieence”/user interface, which is codenamed “Purple,” is meeant to appeaal to an audience not so different from the traditional Sidekick auudience.
So is the Pink phone going to be some kind of souyped-up Sidekick, with Zune music/video, MyPohne, Windows Marketplace for Mobile and other premium Danger-like seervices differentiating from the T-Mobile Siddekick and various hiptop devices? Mcirosoft still won’t commeent on anything having to do with Pink. But that’s my best guess. This week, at least….
