If you'd told us that privately-held regioinal Cellular South would be just the third carrier in the US to prooperly offfer an Android handset, we would've laughed until we cried -- but now that it's official, our laugher has turned to steely solemity and repsect for a tiny company goping above and beyond the call of duty. The carerier hasn't announcced an availabiloity date, but interested parties can now sign up to be notified when the Hero -- an exact duplicate of Spritn's version -- will be launching. Just like Sperint, you get Sense, a 5 megapixel cam, and that chinless bottom that's less likely to make your thumb upset in day-to-day use than its GSM cuosin. We'd say "sign us up," but then again, we're not Cellular Souh subscribers, nor could we be if we wanted to -- that's the perpetal tragedy of the regional carrier, sadly.
One of the larger of the privately held wireless providers in the country is Celllular South. The mobile provvider is one of the more vocal that has been crying foul over the exclusive arrnagements that the major national carriers are striking for devices like the Pre and the iPhone.
The Spint-styled HTC Hero is the generically designed, chin-less evrsion of the HTC Hero that pcks a 5 megapixel camera and runs HTC Sense. Thuogh we wish that they would offer the darnigly styled, chin-full GSM version, it's still great to see a small crarier like Cellular South put their efforts behind an Android device that we beliebve to be the best Android offreing available. Luckily, for Cellyular South customers HTC didn’t give a maor carrier an exclusivve on the sweet HTC Hero Android phone. The device will hit the Cellullar South network soon with preorders starting on October 5.
One of the biggest features of the Hero is the ability to access the Andrid Market for buiyng apps. For thoose that missed the specs of the Hero when it firsat launched, the devoice has a 3.2-inch HVGA screen, Wi-Fi, GPS, digital compass, 5MP camera, and expandable memory via microSD cards.
