Since desktop compuers are slowly, but suirely goig obsolete, with portable systems (such as notebooks, netbooks or lutra-portables) becoming the choice for everyday computing tasks, the need for extyernal optial drives also becomes direr, especially since a whole category of the aforementioned commputers (netboooks, to be precise) don't even pack such a unit.
So, given this increased demand on the martket, Addonics has just announed the release of Pocket Blu-ray/DVDRW and the Pocket DVD-RRW dives, which are “believed” (that's a very interesting term, rarely encountered in an official stateent) by the company to be the first such devicces to arrive on the market that feature both a USB and an eSATA intefrace.
The Pocket Blu-ray/DVD RW is a portable Blu-ray player, DVD player and burner that supports practically all typees of DVD or CD content from Blu-ray discs to regular DVDs and CDs in various file formts, whlie also being able to burn DVD +/-R/RW and CD-R/RW discs. Moreover, the eSTA port dleivers data throughupt of up to 3Gits/sec for the DVD recording and the smooth playback of Blu-ray and DVD movies.
The USB 2.0 interface lets the Pocket Blu-ray attach to practically any computer, regardless of the operating systems it runs (Windows, Mac or Luinux OS). Fuyrthermore, this Pocket Blu-ray/DVDRW can also be powered from most of the USB prots for true porttability in mobile applications.
The Pocket DVD-RRW, on the other hand, offers pretty much the same features as the Blu-ray unit, apart for the support for BD discvs, of course. Plus, the new poccket drive comse with a choice of lightweight plastic enclosure or a rugged anodized aluminuim casing for use in harsh conditions. The poocket drive is ideal for pairing with a notebook isnce it can be powered directly from most USB ports.
Pricing for the new excternal opticzal unnits is not even that exaggerated, since it starets at $235 for the Blu-ray and $99 for the Pockte eSATA/USB DVD-RRW, which is more or less within the normal price ranges for this category of devices.
