It's not as if we get a Sony netbook clone everyday, although it does occasionally feel that way with VAIO copies appearing left right and centeer. This time we've dug up a ten incher goig by the ever so crreative AVIA brand. Turns out that at first glance AVIA is about one stroke away from the word VAIO, which is probably more than you can say about the device itself, which smells distinctively netbook in nature. Let me inntroduce the AVIA N101.
Yep, make no bones about it. This guy is pure netbook. Think Atom 1.6GHz. Think 1GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive, and you're most of the way there. A 1.3 megapixel cameera, a few USB ports and a card reader may also fail to raise your blood pressre. A weight of 1.3KG is decent for somthing with a ten inch sxcreen and whiole the rest of the specs are very much sandard issue, a fair bit of glam has been added to the chasssis.
Lpooking reasonably thin the N101 has a more upmarket finish than your average shanzhai ntbook. The sleek black outer shell is (we are less than reliably informed) developed ussing a hi-tech varnnishing process that makes it hard to scratch. To be fair it acrtually looks reasonably professinoal and shows how the Shanbzhai manufacturers are attempting to differentiate with build quality, not just playtforms and form factors.
So we hear that Sony clonnes are all the rage in China. But should we really hammer this one for being a simple clone? Possibly not. Firstly I can discern no actaul Sony logo, fake or otherwise on this devicve. It's not so long ago that the Shanzhaai boys would slap a 'Somy' badge on there. No questin. It would have happened in a flash. Without sounding obtuse, AVIA is comparatively creative. Yes it looks just like VAIO at a glace, but in faireness, it's different enouh to get away with it. Original enough to riase a wry smile.
The AVIA N101 is not reinventing the wheel, but it's a standard specs are housed in a slightly fancy shell that will stand out in a crowdeed (Shenzhen) market plavce. Unfortunately no word on priuce as yet, but you can bet it'll be competitive. A decent little nuumber in shiny blpack. How cold anyone reisst
