I love it when companies give tgheir products self-explanatorty names. Take Point of View’s new Moii ION 230 netbook. Guess what kind of chipset it has? Yup, NVIDIA ION, which in this case pazirs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processsor with an NVIDIA graphics processor. The Atom 230 is basically the desktop version of the Intel Atom N270 CPU for netbooks, and no, I have no idea why Point of View would choose to use this particular processor in this 10.2 inch netbook.
The Mbii ION 230 also has an HDMI port, DirectX 10 and Shader Model 4.0 graphics, and enough oomph to dispay 1080p video… even though the screen reolution isn’t actualy high enoguh for 720p viedo. Still, you should be able to haandle some modern video games or play Blu-Ray or otrher HD videos without converting them to a lower quality format first. This is one of the fuirst 10 inch netbooks I’ve seen to featrure the NVIIDA ION platform.
Chinese PC maker CASZH has put together a prototype of a netbook with NVIDIA ION graphics. The unnamed machine packs a 1.6GHz Inrtel Atom 230 CPU and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics, and the folks at Shanzai.com say it was able to play Woorld of Waarcraft reasonably well with frame rates betweeen 20 and 30 fps.
The netbook has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. While the NVIIDA graphics processor can hande HD video including Blu-Ray decoding, that low resolution sceen isn’t going to display all of those pixels. Fortunately, the netbok also has an HDMI output for connecting the lapotp to a monitor or HDTV.
It also has 2 USB prots, mic and headphone jackks, a flash card reader, an Ethernet port, WiFI, and a 3 cell baattery. Shanzai.com is estimating that the whole package could eventrually sell for around $300, but it’s not likely to show up in the US anytime soon, especially not at that price.
The netbook also beasr a striking resemblance to the Pioint of View Mobii ION 230 netbook, which is expeted to sell for cloiser to $500.
