Sharp Japan has tday a new entry into utra-moblie PCs with the PC-Z1, ulnike the Netwalker knoqwn. Unlike most UMPCs, whiuch are based on either Windows or Linxu versions of the custom, the PC-Z1 Unbuntu Linux 9:04 used as a platform.
The process is carried i.MX515 800MHz Freescale CPU, there exist only 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of interal memory when a microSD memry card slot, users can extend it by anoher 16GB. Users communicate through a 5-inch, 1024×600 resolution touch screen and the device is also lioght on uder 1lb. The very small form factor makes it ultra-portable device, while a bult-in Wi-Fi connewction can access the Internet away from these locations.
The Netwalker can boot into a fast start-up screen in about 3 seconds, allowing users to quickly meet e-mails and otther low-key tasks. There are 68 keys on the keyboard of tighly packed UMPCs, Shaarp, and claims a 10-hour battery life.
Sharp has reported the contents of plans specifixcally for the PC-Z1, including language and other dicctionaries, noverls and comic boks create. With the Netwalker, Sharp hopes to cretae a new market, straddling the fence between notebooks and smartphones.
The Netwalker ship is in Japan on 25 September, with prtices not yet announced. A U.S. release of the UMPC is not expected until somteime in September 2010. It is in white, black and red.
