Craigslist.org, Craigslist used cars, sell a car on Craigslist, how to sell a car, Craigslist car tips

Have you spent months on Craigslist trying to sell your used car, truck, van, or jeep? If so, you may have asked yourself a million times already “why hasn’t my car sold on Craigslist?” Most likely you are making a very simple mistake.

So, why hasn’t your car sold on Craigslist?

1 – You didn’t use the Kelley Blue Book.

A good selling price is one of the quickest ways to get your car sold on Craigslist. The un-quickest way is to just pull a figure out of nowhere. Most sellers who do this opt for too high of a price. Use the Kelley Blue Book’s online version to determine how much your car is actually worth and set your price from there.

2 – You didn’t realize that other people use the Kelley Blue book.

Another reason why it is important to use the Kelley Blue Book to get an estimated value for a car is because it isn’t a hidden secret. You may care less about your car’s estimated value, but interested buyers don’t. Craigslist buyers are smart; they know what the Kelley Blue Book is and most will actually use it.

3 – You included OBO in your posting, but don’t know what it means

Many new vehicle sellers and those unfamiliar with internet lingo will add OBO to their price. You might actually be surprised how many people have not a clue what this means, they just add it because every other Craigslist car listing has it. OBO means “or best offer.” Guess what, if you put this down, people will try to get a best offer out of you. If you aren’t willing to settle for less, leave the OBO out of it.

4 – You didn’t upload pictures.

Okay, if a Craigslist buyer knows they are getting a used car for $500 they know they are getting a junker and they are likely okay with this. However, do you honestly expect someone to drive to your house to look at a car or even agree to pay $2,000 without even seeing a picture first? You wouldn’t would you? So don’t expect others to do the same. If you don’t have a digital camera, borrow one. There is a good chance you know a million people who do have a camera. In fact, walk the 10 steps to your neighbor’s house and ask.

5 – You didn’t provide enough information.

Guess what? Car buyers want to know more than you “have a red two door truck for sale that still runs great.” Don’t assume interested Craigslist buyers will contact you. They won’t either because they are lazy or they are mad you couldn’t take just a few minutes out of your time to provide more information. At the very least, include the make, model, year, and mileage.
