They aren’t in the professional renting business, which should translate into cheaper prices. If looking for long-term storage, compare the rent costs with that of a professional storage facility. If looking to do your own car repairs, add the rental costs to your auto parts costs and then compare to a professional auto repair service. Either way, you should save money.
The Cons
There are some risks. As previously stated, most of the posters on Craigslist who have a garage rental are homeowners. They aren’t using it, so they figure they could make money with a rental. You will likely have a verbal agreement, not a formal contract as you would with an established storage business. If you can’t install your own padlock, know that the garage owner could enter and access your items at any time. Although most are honest, the risk is always there.
