Craigslist.org, Craigslist deals, Craigslist buying tips, Craigslist furniture, Craigslist search tools

Are you looking for affordable home appliances? If so, you may turn to Craigslist.org. What do you need to know to find the best deals?

Check Walmart.com first. Seriously, you may be surprised how many Craigslist sellers are asking $12 for a two year old Hamilton Beach toaster that you can buy new at Walmart.com for an extra $2.

Avoid dirty home appliances. Listen, if the coffeemaker pictured on Craigslist covered in dirt and coffee stains, you are pretty much guaranteed to get it the same way. If a seller can’t take a few minutes to clean the item before taking the picture, what makes you think they will do it now?

Ask the seller why they are selling whatever (like a new coffeemaker or washer and dryer). Most will simply just tell you “oh I bought a new one.” However, you may be surprised what some people say without thinking first “oh it doesn’t work as good as it first did.”

Don’t waste your time if a picture isn’t included. Some Craigslist sellers are too lazy. They say “email me and I will send you a picture.” This is nothing but a waste of your time. Plus the seller is stupid because it would have taken less than five minutes to take a picture and upload it, but now they have to email that picture to 20 interested buyers. Lazy seller alert; just save your time.

A great time to buy small appliances on Craigslist cheap is during wedding season or at the end of college (usually from May to August). Although these items are listed all year round, you will find an influx of stuff posted by college students and newlyweds because college students are often moving back home with mom and newlyweds are combing two households into one.

Bring a friend along to help move large appliances, like refrigerators and washers or dryers. These can be impossible to move by yourself. If a seller says “you must move it yourself,” don’t expect them to do anything other than standby with a bucket of popcorn, even if they see you struggling.

If you do not have a truck or large vehicle to transport large appliances, ask the seller if he or she does, but be prepared to pay a small amount extra. Offer an extra $5 or $10 for them to drive the item to your house, but $20 or more if you actually expect them to carry it up the stairs (which just so you know is poor in taste to even ask).
