When Free Things on Craigslist Aren’t Worth the Freeness

Craigslist free stuff, free Craigslist, free Craigslist tools, Craigslist searches, Craigslist search tool

So, you have heard that Craigslist has a free stuff section. Yes they do, but, before you get all excited, continue reading on. You can find lots of great stuff in the free section, but some stuff isn’t even worth the $0 price tag. Like what?

Free haircuts. Yes, people really advertise free haircuts on Craigslist. Unless the post states that the cut hair will be used for a non-profit organization to make wigs for cancer patients, it is best to pay for your haircut. You need to walk around with this haircut for months. Don’t, literally, end up looking like a fool because you thought you scored on Craigslist.

Free mattresses for kids. Now, this may sound a little bit weird, but with all the emphasis on bedbugs, are you really willing to take the chance? You can decide to sleep in a bed filled with bugs, but your kids don’t get the choice. Plus, there is late night bedwetting, puking, and all that other good stuff. Unless you intend to invest in a quality, heavy duty plastic mattress cover, buy your kids a new mattress on sale.

Free coupons. Free coupons are nice because you can save a lot of money on groceries, but make sure they are actually worth it. Driving 25 miles to pickup a few coupons for $1 off Turkey Hill ice cream is a bad move. In fact, contact your local retail stores. Most will allow you to take coupons from their unsold papers for free each Sunday night or Monday morning.

Anything placed by the curb. Curb alerts, as they are called on Craigslist, is when the person giving away free stuff does nothing but drag them to the side of the curb. For starters, anyone just driving by can also pick through the stuff. Moreover, consider the weather. If you have had snow or flooding for the last three nights, do you really want a desk that was left sitting outside? No. The only instance in which curb alerts are worth your time is if you can be there within two hours of the listing appearing on Craigslist.

Junk. The only problem that this may pose is that we all have different views on junk. A toaster that doesn’t work may be junk to me, but it may be a fun refixing project for you. Damaged goods aren’t necessarily junk, but anything from 30 years ago or anything covered in stains is likely junk. These aren’t worth the trip even though they are free. In fact, you just wasted two minutes of your time reading the ad on Craigslist.

Although there is a lot of crap listed for free on Craigslist, you can find a lot of nice items too. A few good examples include computer desks, computer chairs, books, movies, clothes, kids toys, and more.
