Craigslist books, used books online, used books on Craigslist, Craigslist search tools, Craigslist.org

Are you an avid reader who likes cheap books? If so, you should checkout Craigslist.org. On Craigslist, you will find hundreds of new and used books for sale.

How to Find Cheap Books for Sale on Craigslist

To get started with finding these items, you can visit the Craigslist home page. Find your local page by selecting your state and nearest city. Then, use the search box on the left-hand side of the page to search for a particular author. You can also look under the “for sale” section and click on the “books” link to browse.

In addition to searching from Craigslist.org, you can also download and use a Craigslist search tool. These tools allow you to search multiple locations and categories at once. If you are willing to have your purchase mailed or are looking for something in particular, like a used college book or an antique book, a Craigslist search tool gives you more options.

Tips for Buying Cheap Books on Craigslist

Drive wisely. Craigslist is designed to connect local buyers and sellers. This means if you agree to buy a book on Craigslist, you are likely driving to pick it up. A hardcover James Patterson book in like new condition for $3 is a good deal, but not if you must drive 30 miles to pickup the book. For cheap, used books on Craigslist, it is best to stay local and really local.

Consider shipping. Although Craigslist.org is designed to connect local buyers and sellers, some buyers and sellers don’t mind doing purchases through the mail. However, there are some risks involved. Luckily, you are dealing with cheap books. For that $3 James Patterson book, tell the seller you live 30 miles away, but still want the book. Ask if they have a PayPal account. If they don’t, see if you can send a money order for $5 or $6 (This includes $3 for the book and $2 or $3 for media mail shipping). You still walk away with a good deal, even though you must pay for shipping.

Buy in bulk to save time and money. Rarely does a Craigslist seller have one book for sale. They likely have at least five or more. Some will list all the books under one Craigslist post, but others won’t. Ask the seller if they have more books available. Many times, you can get a discount by buying in bulk. This approach is nice because if that seller has one book you like, chances are you have the same reading habits and he or she has more.

Be sure to check the editions for college books. It is no secret that college books are expensive. Many college students try to recoup their costs by selling their old books. You may be able to save $50 or more (yes really) on some used books. However, double check the editions and your course requirements. Make sure the book edition hasn’t changed for this year’s class.
