Parts cars, junk cars, Craigslist cars, Craigslist.org cars, Craigslist search tools, car parts online

If you ever take the time to browse Craigslist.org, you are likely to find vehicles known as parts cars. These cars are usually older and have a serious or expensive problem that the owner does not want to fix. It isn’t worth the hassle; therefore, they decide to get rid of the car and sell it on Craigslist. What are the pros and cons of buying a junk car, also commonly referred to as a parts car?

The Pros

You get an almost endless supply for auto parts and accessories. Of course, you don’t want to choose just any junk car. It is best to opt for the same make, model, and year as your current vehicle. Some accessories, unlike car parts, can be used on same brands, like Mercedes even if the year or make is different. Wouldn’t it be neat being able to go years without needing to buy other car parts and accessories? You can pull from the junk car sitting in your garage. In this aspect, a junk car can save you money.

Most parts cars come with cheap price tags. In fact, some are listed for free on Craigslist.org. As previously stated, the vehicles usually have something wrong with them, like an engine or transmission problem. The owner cannot afford to make repairs or just chooses not to. Basically, the owner just wants to get rid of the vehicle and no longer have it sitting on their property.

The Cons

Cars that are sold just for parts rarely run. This shouldn’t come as a surprise and you will know this upfront, but you may need to arrange delivery. If you don’t have a truck with a car trailer, ask a friend or relative to borrow theirs. Although this may seem like a big hassle, it is usually worth it in the long-run It won’t hurt to ask the seller if they can deliver the car to you, but be sure you include an extra bonus or tip once they do drop the vehicle off.

Junk cars can be hard to find, especially if you are looking for a specific make and model. To increase your chances of finding a Mercedes parts car or another make, look in other areas too. Most Craigslist shoppers search their community page only, completely forgetting about other nearby areas. Don’t. The more Craigslist city pages you search, the more likely you are to find a junk vehicle that you can use for parts.

If you don’t want to perform separate searches on each location page, as Craigslist.org makes you do, you can download a Craigslist search tool to search multiple cities, entire states, or all of Craigslist at once.
