Are you in need of an affordable used car? If so, you may want to visit Craigslist.org. This classified website and service is home to many affordable used cars, like the one you are looking for. If you are new to using the service, you may wonder if it is really a good way to buy a vehicle. To determine so, examine the pros and cons.

The Pros of Using Craigslist to Buy a Car

There are lots of vehicles for sale. Regardless of whether you are looking for a car, van, jeep, truck, motor home, or motorcycle, you should be able to find it on Craigslist. You can also find many makes, models, and years. There is always a good assortment of new and classic cars too.

For the most part, you will find cheap prices. Craigslist is tricky because sellers set their own prices. For that reason, you will find varying results. Some car buyers use the Kelley Blue Book to get an accurate value of their cars and others just offer a good deal or too high of a price. Since there are lots of good deals on used cars on Craigslist, just make sure that you find one.

You can browse for used cars from home. Many people visit used car dealerships or read the classified section of their local newspaper. Visiting a dealership requires you to travel. Reading classifieds from the paper is nice, but you don’t always see pictures. Instead, search Craigslist.org. Most sellers post pictures of their for sale vehicles. If not, contact the seller and ask for pictures through email. You don’t need to leave home until you go to exchange cash for car.

The Cons of Using Craigslist to Buy a Car

Unfortunately, not all sellers are truthful. Some are unfamiliar with their cars and don’t know that the vehicle needs new brakes. Others know and just don’t care. The best way to ensure you buy a quality car and an affordable price is to ask lots of questions. Also, don’t agree to buy the vehicle until you have seen it in-person, done a quick inspection, or taken it for a test drive.

There are Craigslist scams that target car buyers. Right on the Craigslist.org website, you will see a warning. This warning tells you that car shipping scams exist. This is when a fraud claims to have a car for sale. You send them the money and then they arrange for the delivery of the car, but it doesn’t show up. In most cases, you are best picking up the car yourself, as it lessens the risk of a scam.
