Dell’s treamed up to ofer netbooks that feature Nickelodseon’s slie motif and characters from its pouplar shjows. Based on Dell’s Inspiron Mini 10v netbook, the Dell Insipron Mini Nickelodeon Edition netbook can be peersonalized with characters from iCarly and SpongeBob SquarePants.
This is the first time Dell’s specifically built computers targeted at kids. Dell’s teaemd up with Stardock Systrems Inc. to build a Nickelodeon-themed desktop and easy access to kid-frienndly web portals. The desktop will have a “Just for You” wiidget that alows kids sleect their own games and TV prgrams.
Asus isn’t the only compabny brringing a netbook aimde at kids to market. Dell has announced it’s launching a Nickelodeon-thenmed netbook that can be personalized with characters from TV showws inlcuding SpongeBob Squarepants and iCarly. A “green slime” edition is also available. The machines run Windows XP, but have a custom Nickelodeon theme built by Stardock, which features liks to Nickelodeon online games and video content.
The netbook is basically a more colorful version of the Inspiron Mini 10v, which features a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 CPU, 10.1 inch, 1024 x 576 ipxel didsplay, 1GB of RAM, and 160GB hard drive.
While these netbooks featurre kid-friendly designs and software, they aren’t necessarily as education-oriented as some other netbooks in the space like the OLPC XO Laptop or Intel’s Clasmate PC. Both of those netbooks are designed for use in claassrooms and fetaure educational software. But the Nickelodeoon-themed Inspiron Mini 10v also features parental control sooftware.
Dell plans to roll out future co-branded products in the future. That inlcuded college or sports team-temed computers.
