Offices are becoming friendlier places every day. It’s becoming more and more common to host baby and bridal showers for co-workers. When it comes to organizing an office baby shower, though, there are a different set of rules.

First, you may be limited on time for an office baby shower. Check with your boss or office manager to make sure that there are no policies that would keep you from throwing the party. People will still have to get their work done throughout the day, so plan your office baby shower around a common break time such as lunch. You may even need to schedule your office baby shower for after the close of business.

Secondly, you will want to ask everyone involved to help out by chipping in for the party. Most people can chip in a couple of dollars to cover the cake, some decorations and either a few small gifts or one, larger gift. Make sure that don’t start shopping until everyone involved has pitched in their money for the office baby shower. Start your shopping with the gifts. Try to get someone else from the office to go with you. It’s easier to make office wide decisions when you’re not making them alone.

Next, you will need to find a cake for your office baby shower. Don’t go overboard on the cake. All you need is a sheet cake that will feed the office staff. Have it decorated to suit the occasion. This should be fairly inexpensive and easy to find. Since you’re throwing an office baby shower, you won’t need a lot of food. You can pick up a few snacks items and some drinks and be done.

If you find that you are running low on funds, ask a few coworkers to bring in a simple dish or relish tray. Alcohol is always inappropriate in an office setting and at a baby shower. Serve a non-alcoholic punch instead.

Finally, you are going to need to decorate for the office baby shower. Since the party is at the office, you really shouldn’t go overboard here, either. One roll of streamers and a few balloons should do the trick. It will also be easier to clean up after the party is over.

It will be unlikely that you can fit shower games into your schedule. But if you'd like to try a game, keep it simple, short, and more dignified than the type you'd play at home.
