Canon is making high quality affordable digital cameras. Their new Canon Rebel TXi is a great addition to the successful Canon EOS digital cameras line. But like any other product the Canon Rebel XTi also has some drawbacks. Here are a few pros and cons for this camera.

The Rebel XTi is a 10 mega pixels digital camera. It uses a high sensitivity CMOS CCD sensor and a 2.5 inches LCD screen for post photo shooting viewing. The camera fits the hand like a glove, the ergonomic design and lightweight make it very comfortable to hold and use. The 10 mega pixels sensor can produce great quality photos but it comes at the expense of large photo files. It is thus recommended to get a high capacity memory card to go with this camera. The Canon Rebel XTi uses compact flash memory cards and can save photos in either RAW or JPEG formats. You can also connect it to your PC using a fast USB 2.0 connection.

The Canon Rebel XTi can use any of the many EOS compatible lenses from Canon. You can choose anything from the bundled lenses to high end image stabilizer lenses from the EF lenses line. The camera also uses a battery clip for easily carrying an extra battery – not a bad idea if you are planning long photo shoot session without an access to a battery charger.

Canon has some interesting features less seen in other cameras. For example the picture style option that allows you to choose between landscape and portrait “film” modes. Focus is done either automatically, semi automatically or manually. The automatic focus works well like with other Canon SLR cameras it works in most scenarios and it locks on the right focus in a fast and quiet way. The Rebel XTi is also good in its fast shutter response time there is almost no delay between hitting the shutter button to taking a photo – shutter delay is a big problem with most digital cameras. The Rebel XTi also uses an automatic dust remover – a high frequency system that automatically cleans dust from the internal optics.

For its price the Canon Rebel XTi is a great buy. Combined with the right high quality lenses it can be compared side by side with much more expensive digital SLR cameras. Instead of spending a lot of money on an expensive digital SLR camera body and then having to compromise on the quality of the lenses the Canon Rebel XTi allows you to get a great high quality digital SLR camera body for an affordable low price leaving enough greens in your pocket to spend on a high quality lens.

Many amateurs photographers focus too much on the camera body, mega pixels and other features and forget that at the end of the day the quality of their digital photos for the most part relies on the quality of the lens they use much more than the quality of the camera body. The bottom line is, the Canon Rebel XTi has much more advantages than disadvantages one thing to note is that the Canon Rebel XTi is not a full frame digital camera. Full frames cameras are getting more and more popular though for most amateur and semi-professional photographer having a full frame camera is not that important.
