Buyers who are in urgent need of a vehicle but have a limited budget can turn to auto auctions. Auto auctions are available to the public and are simultaneously happening in all parts of the world.

Whether you are a seasoned auction buyer or a first-time attendee, you need to determine the different factors that come with auto auctions. If it’s your first time, it is best that you ask around how auto auctions work or find someone who knows the process and ask him to accompany you.

First off, auto auctions have registrations, either free or with a fee depending on the company. It is essential that you familiarize yourself with the type of vehicle that you are looking for. Do a research about the type of vehicle and have a list of prospective vehicles prior to the auction. If you don’t get your first choice, have an alternative choice ready.

Vehicles can be inspected before the auction so take advantage of this. It is best that you check the vehicle before choosing it. Inspect all parts of the vehicle, the doors, hood, trunk, lights, etc. If you’re lucky, some auto auctions will allow you to test drive the car.

The key to finding good choices is to come early. If you’re going to a public auto auction, bring a Kelley Blue Book, NADA guide or an Edmunds book. Meanwhile, if you’re headed to a wholesale auto auction, bring a Black Book. Once you already have a vehicle of your choice, wait for the list of vehicles available for bidding. All the information regarding that vehicle can be seen there. It includes the following: make, model, year, color, VIN, mileage, installed equipment and special features if there are any. Check the actual worth of the vehicle. Moreover, before buying the vehicle of your choice, it is best to run an AutoCheck Vehicle History report on the vehicle’s VIN#. The AutoCheck report will help you protect yourself against fraud.

Since an auto auction serves as a marketplace for used vehicles, do check out other local dealers for comparable prices. Vehicles in auto auctions must be scrutinized very carefully to make sure you are not wasting your money. Keep in mind that since you are bidding in a wholesale auction, there will be a lot of people who are bidding against each other.

Auction houses each have its own set of terms and conditions. Read it carefully and be sure you understand each clause to avoid any trouble. Some auction houses conduct a mock auction prior to the actual sale. First-time attendees are suggested to attend this to get a first look of the process. Most importantly, go over the contract thoroughly before anything else.
