Like many of you, when all the tools came out to help people build a big Twitter following that you could promote to, I decided to look into it. I enlisted in programs that promised to get me followers on Twitter and bought software tools to help advertise my products. All in all, I ended up purchasing about eight different programs that would help me with all of this.
One of these software tools was an automatic 'people follower' on Twitter with the aim that some of those people would follow me also. If anyone was not following me, I had another program that would automatically remove them from my to-follow list. This way I could be following other people who might follow me in return. Along with some other programs that are not actually worth mentioning, I purchased a program that would automatically take my blog posts and automatically Tweet them as soon as they were published on my blog. I must say that the combined effect of utilizing all these software together produced superb results since each program did as advertised. I was rapidly brought down to earth when I checked my spreadsheet and realized that I wasn't actually making any money! Every day I would post about ten blog entries knowing that they would then automatically be displayed on Twitter also. Then I found a way to have all the posts done for me automatically, thinking that the more posts I would have the more people who would see them.
Okay, let me share my results: Employing this strategy over three years led to about 10,000 people following me on Twitter. You might be extremely happy to achieve that number of followers, but there's more to come. Also in the past three years I have had more than 15,000 of my blog posts that were promoting affiliate products added to my Twitter account. My blog posts showing on Twitter was the only sort of advertising for that blog I did and to test the effectiveness of Twitter I did not even ping new posts as they were published. Well I learned, in the last 3 years I generated 2 affiliate sales for a total of $48, and I pulled in $8.52 with Adsense. And that specific blog only receives about 2 to 4 visitors a day from Twitter.
In short, having approximately 10,000 followers on Twitter using all these tools will not give you the results you desire. At the end of the day I'm now out of money for the Twitter software tools I bought because my dollar return was so low. Last, I cannot personally recommend using automatic software tools as a profitable means of promoting on Twitter.
