Let me just start by saying that I have been down the same road more than once with these so-called wholesale distributors I have found all over the web.
I am sure you have as well, looked through the search engines using the terms wholesale suppliers, drop shipping distributors, and bulk wholesale products; trying to find a supplier for products you can sell. Even to the point of scanning through one of those giant wholesale directories.
Let me explain why I am writing this...
I operate an ecommerce site from home successfully selling the few products I have managed to obtain from my contacts with real wholesale distributors I was given from my family. It was just about a month ago when a friend of mine sent me a link to yet another wholesale directory; the Worldwide Brands OneSource Directory. This is a friend I have known for years that I trust, so I clicked the link to see what all the hype was about.
Why do I hate wholesale directories
This is easily explained. A real factory direct wholesale distributor has no need to advertise the products they supply. It is up to the creator of the product to build a marketing campaign for a product to sell more of it. All a wholesale supplier really does is ship the products they carry in bulk quantity to retailers.
The internet is useless to them and they have no need to advertise their business online. Why would a wholesale distributor build a website targeted to attract new potential retailers when the really good ones with brand name products already have tons of huge retailers to deal with Don't get me wrong though, there are some small time operations out on the web looking for new potential retailers but finding them is incredibly difficult.
A Wholesale Directory is mainly just advertising space for all the fakes and middle men to try and promote their marked up products to the new eager ecommerce community.
You can imagine the frustration when my friend sent me a link to another wholesale trade directory. I would have never clicked it if I had not of trusted him.
When I clicked the link and accessed the Worldwide Brands website it was not what I expected to see at all. I was actually impressed to read about product sourcing research, market research, and scam spotting. Maybe...
At this point I told myself, It is still a list most likely packed with the common fakes and middle men; not a true source for real wholesale distributors.
When I asked him where he found this distributor he told me that he had sent me the link a few days ago. I could sence his laughter as my jaw hit the floor.
I decided to give it a chance and purchased the Worldwide Brands OneSource Directory and for hours on end I scanned through a huge list that was compiled by brand name, product type, and company name. I still, however, find flaws within the Worldwide Brands product line. More about his later, but here is the real questions to ask right now.
- Is Worldwide Brands OneSource Directory really comprised of only real wholesale distributors
- Will these distributors work with home based businesses
- What type of distributors can you find in this directory
The biggest problem is that most people who buy the Worldwide Brands OneSource Directory do not have the knowledge of what to do with the information provided. A lot of the distributor contacts do not have websites.
I have to admit, the first supplier I ever contacted was one I knew I was not going to do business with. I only called them to get a feel for the questions they were going to ask me, the things they were going to need from me, and the responses they would give me for my questions. This is a very credable directory but it lacks certain things. Chris Malta and his team of product sourcing experts have done a great job builing up the best directory I have yet to find on the web, adding the market research wizard to go along with it, but their knowledge could take not only them, but you as well, even further. All real wholesale distributors, who are checked and verified as being a real wholesale distribution company by eBay's Product Sourcing Expert and Entreprenur Magazines E-Biz Radio Show Chris Malta.
I began to focus my aim on finding more distributors with products to fit my market. Within a week I was already in contact with new suppliers and thanks to the market research tool, found a product in my market that sells really well; and to my own suprise, I found a distributor who had some of the very same products I was already selling at even lower prices.
