Usually, cheating is something made against the accepted norms or standards of society. One may find cheating in different games as well. There’re different methods of cheating tricks used in casinos where players benefit unfair advantage from the game. Card cheating has become rather popular lately due to the increasing number of players.

There’s hard cheating and soft cheating usually used in poker games. Cheating can be also met in casinos and other card rooms. Generally, cheating may be used in three ways: by means of collusion, with the usage of cheating gaffs and by false shuffling.

Collusion

Collusion is the usage of other people to cheat at poker. It includes playing against the players and dumping, signaling and whipsawing. Dumping is conscious losing to a partner with crooked intentions. Signaling is transferring information between partners and whipsawing is joining together of players sitting at opposite ends of the table to cheat other players.

A method of collusion includes a number of techniques used by a card cheater called a card shark. This person controls the order of cards or one specific card. The technique of mixing the deck by means of false shuffling and cutting is used in card playing.

One type of collusion is bottom dealing which involves shuffling the cards in such a way that the high cards are put on the bottom of the deck. It’s very easy to notice though.

Cheating gaffs

Cheating gaffs include marked cards, holdout devices, glims etc.

Marked cards are one of the most popular cheating techniques in the game of poker. They help the players in playing the game successfully and to think crucial. Marked cards are also called Readers and may be seen by looking at the back of the cards. Marking may be done in the form of nail marks, scratches, changing designs in the cards, dirt marks or a bend on the cards.

Holdout devices are used to hold a card or cards in the course of the game. They aren’t difficult in use but not very handy if used incorrectly. An individual needs to have special manipulative skills. The holdout devices are necessary to keep aside a card or cards for a while and retrieve it soon. Such devices include ring holdout, sleeve holdout, vest holdout and cuff holdout which are the inventions of the nineteenth century.

People mastering difficult card cheat techniques are called hand muckers, paper players, card mechanics, base dealers, and cross players. Card mechanic is a master of sleight of hand technique. Base dealer is good in bottom dealing and is also called a second dealer. A person who uses marked cards is called a paper player. A hand mucker specializes in switching cards. The one machine uses mechanical holdouts.

False shuffling

It’s the process of shuffling cards in order to place them in the right position. The deck would be pre-arranged and the card cheat shouldn’t misplace it.
