The wedding reception is there to complete the wedding ceremony, as none can do without the other. If you think of the wedding ceremony as being the solemn celebration, then you can think of the wedding reception as being a time where everyone gets to celebrate. For that particular reason, the music at the wedding reception should be very lively creating a happy atmosphere within the venue.

As the guests and the newlywed arrive at the venue, it’s the musician’s responsibility to select a song that can create a nice mood from the beginning. Any song that is capable of making you want to get up and dance is most appropriate. If you are looking for some glamorous ambience for the occasion, then you should consider swing or light classical. But if you want to go for something friendlier, then well-known tunes or the traditional tracks that people can recognise is your best option.

Music options for the wedding reception

For the wedding reception, you get the option of choosing music from duo, live band music or trio performers, or you could just go for recorded music played on your regularly disc jockey. However, you can’t go wrong by hiring a live band for the occasion, in addition, before you go out there and book one for your wedding reception, it’s important that you ask for a sample of the band’s music beforehand. You should also try to find out about the duties of the emcee.

Duo or trio performers are another viable option for entertainment at the reception. A duo should be sufficient for a reception that exceeds no more than 70 people. A trio, is more than capable of handling in excess of 100 guests, and for larger wedding receptions, you may want to think about a quartet. Whether you opt to hire a quartet, trio, or duo, the type of music for the occasion must be discussed before the event and they should also give suggestions about optimal tunes to play at your reception.

Lastly, you can go out and hire a disc jockey to play music that you have recorded. A good disc jockey is more than capable of entertaining the guests between breaks. If you decide to go with this choice, then it’s very important you plan the music ahead of time, because the best jockeys tend to get hired first. You don’t want to put yourself in a situation where you have to hire someone with very little to no experience at wedding receptions.
