No matter what type of retail business you own, having a web presence is important and is a great way to stay in touch with your customers. Whether in a big city or a small town, having a web site creates an image of stability and trust with your current customers as well as new ones who walk into your place of business.

When creating a web site for your retail business consider these points.

Purpose of web site
Informational or trying to sell a product or service
Create an opt-in list for a email campaign
A place to gather feedback from your customers
How to let each customer know about your web site

Purpose Of Your Retail Business Web Site

Before you even open your doors to your new business, be sure and have a web site already designed and online. Have business cards made up with your web address printed on them and give them out to every person that walks into your business.

Another important point in trying to keep in touch with all potential customers is to have them sign up for either a free newsletter or just simple updates or special promotions about your business. This is a great way to create an opt-in list so that you can from time to time send them emails about your business.

To clarify - An opt-in list is just a simple way to get people to agree that you can send them emails without being accused of sending Spam. Always be sure and leave an opt-out option on each and every email that you send out, this lets the people decide if they want to continue getting emails from your business.

As you are building your customer base, decide how or for what purpose your web site will be used. Do you want to sell products and ship them to your customers or do you simply want to keep them informed about your business so that they will think of your business when out shopping for whatever product or service that you are offering.

Keep It Simple

When starting out with your new business, keep your web site simple and easy to navigate. You can always add more features as your business grows.

Make sure that your home page is warm and friendly, has a picture of your business and a company logo in place. Have a brief description of your business, address and where to locate your business.

Another very important point is to have a customer feedback page. A lot of times people will come into your business and not purchase anything but just look around. They also most of the time do not tell you or let you know how they felt about your business.

By having a customer feedback page, this gives the customer the opportunity to give their opinion about your business in the comfort of their own home. This allows you to gather this information and use it in a positive manner to improve or cater to what your customers want or need from your business.
