During the reception of the wedding, the mother of the bride will be given an opportunity to present a toast to her newlywed daughter. However, it can be fairly difficult for a mother to accomplish this, because of the amount of emotion going through the air during the event. These difficulties can intensify if the mother attends the event without first preparing herself. A mother seeing her daughter getting married is both a sad and exiting event, so delivering the right speech to convey the mothers feelings can be a fairly difficult ordeal. But it’s possible for you to appease much of these problems if you properly prepare yourself.

These are just some of the many tips that are available to mothers to use for the delivery of a much anticipating speech at her daughter’s wedding.

The first thing that you should think about is the attendees. Remember that it’s the guests invited that have made the event what it is. So you should give them special thanks for their efforts to make the wedding memorable and as successful for your daughter. You should stick to only a few names like the biggest contributors, because reading out the entire guest list is likely to take you a while.

Second, try to include advice in the wedding speech that you deliver to your daughter, something the newlywed couple can take with them and use for their marriage. It’s likely that you’ve experienced many years of marriage, so you are all too familiar with the pros and cons to that lifestyle. Feel free to talk about the things that you have been able to learn as a married woman.

Thirdly, it presents an opportunity for you to officially welcome the groom into your family. There are many parents out there that do not acknowledge the guy as a member of the family until he marries their daughter. Try to make it as brief as possible, so as not to embarrass the groom, especially if you’ve had any issues with him in the past. Just a simple “welcome to our family” should be enough to show that you now accept him as a member of your unit.

Fourthly, avoid talking about anything sad during your wedding speech.

Lastly, since it can prove difficult to avoid crying during such an event, make sure you have a handkerchief or tissue before you start your wedding speech. Smeared mascara really isn’t a good look.
