While the convertible bridal gown isn’t new, when it comes to collections for the spring and fall, more and more fashion designers are considering creating them.

With having a second wedding dress becoming a must have addition for many brides, it’s becoming increasingly more difficult for one to justify the costs associated with purchasing more than one gown. Brides that are interested in staying within their budget constraints may have to go with a short to long wedding dress or a 2 piece which will look ideal for both the wedding ceremony and wedding reception.

There are so many bridal wedding dress that are capable of changing from short to long, or long to short with just a few pins, zippers and snaps. The trick is in knowing which one is most suited for you.

The changeable wedding dress is one that you may want to consider. It’s a one piece wedding dress that sports a front short hemline and a long length back. Some of these dresses are suitable for your formal wedding, while others are best for informal ceremonies, making them most ideal for garden, beach and casual wedding ceremonies.

The 2 piece wedding dress is what you have next, with a detachable skirt. This is made possible by the gown being designed as a wrap. In most cases it’s a ball dress with its own sash, with a skirt that is attached to the dress on the right side of the waist. This is probably one of the most convenient convertible bridal gowns to wear as the bride only needs to tie and untie to put it on and take it off. Underneath is usually a shorter or longer version of the original dress.

Keeping in line with this style of dress would be a skirt that is detached with zippers or snaps around the knee or thigh area. These types are for mermaid style wedding dresses. When detached, the wedding gown is made to appear more formal, and is typically floor length. The train may vary from semi-chapel to a sweep, but is never longer than such measurements.

The detachable train is the last type of convertible bridal gowns. You can find this two piece ensemble on ball to sheath wedding gowns. Depending on the style of the dress, the train may hook, snap or may be pinned onto the gown. The end result is either a shorter or floor length wedding dress under the train that should be more suitable for the reception of your wedding.
