“Yes, you and your partner are in love, but you have no idea how expensive marriages can be”. Have you grown tired of repeating this same line over and over again? If you are interested in tying the knot, but you and your partner lack funds, there are three viable options available to you: Borrow the money from your future in-laws, which isn’t a recommended choice, borrow the money from your parents, or seek out cheap wedding ideas.
Let me suggest a few methods that you can use to cut the expenses off your wedding. There should be nothing that gets in your way of having the wedding of your dreams.
Do It Yourself
You should forget about hiring an expensive wedding planner. In the past, our mothers did all the wedding planning, so you should be able to do it by yourself also. Buy a little notebook and use it to write down everything that you will need: catering, church, musicians, flowers, wedding dress, invitation, rings etc. It may sound like a lot of work, but it’s nothing that’s beyond you.
Planning a Double Wedding
Have you ever noticed how many friends decide to get married in the same year, around the same season, almost on the same day? You should consider planning a double wedding, that way you will only have to spend half the money? It should be a fairly enjoyable event, deciding with your friends, the wedding theme, the bouquet and the music. This is one of the cheapest methods that you have available to you, providing you are able to find a couple to do it with.
Minimise Your Guest List
If your parents intend to pay for a portion of the wedding, then the guests they suggest should be included. However, if you and your partner intend to pay for the wedding, then there’s no reason why you should pay for people you don’t even know. Explain with your parents your intentions for the wedding that you would like to invite family and close friends only. This argument should work for those you work with, friends that you are no longer in contact with, and neighbours that annoy you.
Don’t Purchase a New Bridal Dress
One of the most expensive items on your wedding list is the bridal gown. However, you’d be hard-pressed to find a bride that would consider getting married without a nice white dress. So why not consider borrowing your mother’s old dress, it would mean a lot to her, and it could save you a considerable amount of money.
