The success to any wedding is its organisation. The planning of a wedding can be referred to as a large project management task where massive amounts of resources will have to be sourced at some point in time, maybe a year or two, to execute a task at a specific time on a specific day.

Because of this reality, the organisation and planning of the wedding should be treated like it was a business project, with the project management methodology applied including the identification of the tasks that need to be completed and the order in which they are to be done, for timeline for each one of these task, the dependence of these specific tasks along with the risk associated with them.

These tasks are then put into bundles, and from there put into stages, with each individual stage carrying a mitigation assessment and risk analysis. Within this exercise you will be required to evaluate the risk of each and every one of these tasks in its stage and the groom and bride will be required to bring forth plans to avoid or mitigate as many of these risks as they possibly can.

For example, a risk could be what if the car for the bride does not show up? The first thing we will have to do is assess its likelihood, and then we mitigate this risk by putting in the necessary structures to counter this risk, example, putting Dads car in standby, with your brother driving it, just incase the brides car does not arrive. You can go a little deeper if you like, by presenting the argument, what if the bride’s car does not arrive and the dad’s car will not start? Again, you will be required to assess the risk and then mitigate.

When getting married, it should be one of the happiest moments in your life, but it’s also typically very stressful. Communication is a vital part of the organisation phase of the wedding. Essentially you will have a project that has a lot of aspects to it, with lots of people involved in it; all of this will have to be coordinated by you. In some instances the same information will have to be presented to numerous people. This information may be things such as, the wedding guest list, where to stay, travel and directions, the seating arrange for the reception etc. When you use these classic techniques of project management, it will ensure that your wedding goes as smoothly as you want it.
