In addition to saving energy, some washers are saving valuable time for users, by speeding up cycle times. There are even washing machines that are multi-purpose with dry cleaning capabilities, using steam instead of chemicals. Surprisingly, clothes dryer features appear limited to the so called condensing dryers.
As kitchens become more technically designed, dishwashers are being built to conserve energy. New technologies are also allowing them to conserve water as rinse-water reduction can cut energy consumption in half. As for the smallest major kitchen appliance, the garbage disposal is a highly technological device in itself. The idea behind the use of a garbage disposal is to effectively convert food scraps to liquid, thereby improving waste management for plants and sewers.
Stoves and ovens are now available with dehydration, warming drawers and speed cooking. In fact they are becoming so advanced, there is now a wall oven that refrigerates your entree in the oven allowing you to begin the cooking process over the internet. Some manufacturers have even gone so far as to add computer applications to refrigerator front doors. These refrigerators have a touch screen LCD and Wi-Fi which allow for surfing the internet and tweeting capabilities. Who will be adequately trained to repair these combinations of a computer and appliance?
While all these features are somewhat desirable, they also mean somewhat higher repair costs. In an effort to save money, some individuals attempt to repair major appliances themselves. Many parts are also broken in the process leading to an even bigger repair bill as the technician has to reassemble the appliance before even beginning to diagnose the problem.
Although these new designs have created additional opportunities for an appliance repair service, they have also created additional challenges for appliance repair services. One huge hurdle is the availability of resources to train individuals on how to repair appliances. While most colleges and vocational schools offer basic refrigeration classes, precious few have an appliance repair curriculum.
