As the wise men and women say law is one of the most important things which make us civilized and social animals. We have read it in school, our parents have told us and these days it is everywhere in the media that the law of the Jungle is just another word for a complete state of lawlessness which means that there is chaos, anarchy and total damage to the fabric of a civilized society.

Law has been framed our ancestors not only to protect men and women when they are living but as the time passed by and we as human beings became more sedentary, various sections of laws have been framed to ensure that whatever property or anything which have earned or made during our lifetime is protected and not misused by people who do not have good intentions. As per law, a will is a legal declaration by which a person names another person who will manage the former’s property after he or she dies and this will is made by a lawyer keeping in mind all the important statuettes of law.

When anyone is contesting a will it means that the person is raising a question on the validation of the will and by contesting a will in the court of law, the person also means that at the time when the will was being written, the person to whom the property belonged was either mentally stable or had been a victim of fraud exercises and unwanted influences and this clearly indicates the involvement of the so called well-wishers who were actually not so.

Contesting a will therefore requires a good lawyer, resources, patience as well as moral courage as one has to fight against injustice which by no means is a cakewalk these days. The discussion on contesting a will also bring us to an important question that how to contest a will to which the answer is first and foremost one needs to find a good lawyer who can guide the person who is contesting a will. Another important thing which one should keep in mind when it comes to how to contest a will is that contesting a will in one country is not the same as contesting a will in another country as laws differs from countries to countries.

Also wills are contested only if the property concerned holds an immense value because people don’t contest a will for each and every small thing as contesting a will requires a lot of energy and resources. Therefore it is often said that one should write his or her will when he or she is mentally stable and consult all the members of the family in order to wash away any traces of dispute because it is majorly due to these disputes that wills are contested.
