Are you interested in having Jordan almonds in your wedding? Have you grown tired of Jordan almonds in those little organza bags? Well you can make your own flower, which creates an elegant and unique way of presenting Jordan almonds at your wedding reception.
Jordan almonds are today a traditional candy for weddings and wedding favours. Almonds have a taste that is bittersweet, which is much like life itself. The sugar coating is there to symbolise that the life of the newlywed will be sweeter than it is bitter.
These favours are very common at Greek and Italian weddings, but are slowly making their way into traditional American weddings also. The five different almond favours are known by “bomboniera” or “bonbonnieres” which simply translates into dish or a box of candies and “confetti favours” which translates into candy or confection favour.
The sugar coated almonds that are featured at traditional Greek weddings are called “koufetta”. The odd number of these almonds that are used are indivisible, which is supposed to symbolise how the newlywed are to share everything in their lives without division. Traditions say that if a woman who is not married and puts one of these almonds under her pillow, then she will have a dream about the man she is to marry.
Before you can make your own flowers, you will need a number of supplies, such as rose leaves, almond holders, stamens, floral tape, Jordan almonds and ribbons.
You will then fold the almond holder by squeezing the wire that is positioned in the middle over the Jordan almond. You can decide whether you want to make five or six almonds for your wedding favour.
Next you should group five stamens and fold them in half. Using floral tape, you should then wrap them together, not all the way, so that it’s quite loose around the top area. Again, using the floral tape, you should tape the stamen bunch to one of those almond holders. Then bend this almond holder on its side so that the bunch of stamen will be positioned higher than the holder.
Get the remaining almond holders, there should be four of them, and place them around the leaf with the stamens, ensuring that each and every one of the holders are positioned in the same direction. Twist the stems of the wires together and then wrap with the floral tape around the base area of the almond holder.
