People see getting married as a major shift in one’s life, and that the change can be rather stressful for its participants. But putting together a speech for the wedding can be an even more stressful duty, especially when you consider that it must be delivered in front of a large audience.

It can be very nerve raking for you to stand and deliver a speech in front of so many people if you have never done something like that before. Remember, it’s possible for you to simply read out a wedding toast by keeping yourself at ease, remaining confident, poised, humorous and heartfelt.

Put the speech in writing, as a general rule; make sure the speech is short and concise. If you write a speech that exceeds more than a page, then chances are that it will bore your listeners.

Your speech should start with an introduction into who you are and exactly how you are related to those who have just wed. If you are the maid of honour or best man, then you should thank the bride and groom and their parents.

Consider talking about a funny incident that involved both the bride and groom, but it should not be embarrassing. Make sure you speak from the heart. Write down some funny wedding quotes then intelligently incorporate them into your wedding speech to make it more humorous.

Be sure to thank everybody who is at the wedding which will include the officiant, keep in mind that reading out your speech doesn’t give you the right to offend anyone at the event. Make sure you avoid bringing out any rivalries with the things that you say. No one will appreciate it, which is something you can be sure of. Bring up some of the best moments involving both the groom and bride and you can be sure that everyone will appreciate it.

In many instances, the person who is delivering the speech may throw out one or two good one-liners to the listeners in order to add humour and fun to it, so you should consider doing that, because if done well, it can be very effective. However, one important thing that you should consider when attempting to add humour to your wedding speech is to practice it first in front of a small gathering of friends or in front of a mirror, before you go out there and do the real thing.
