There are so many tenants that are unable to have pets. Or they are pet owners but spend their time hiding the pet from their agent or landlord when they come around to inspect their home. It can also be heartbreaking when a pet has to be either sold, given away or put down because a tenant is being forced out (usually because the property is being sold off) and is unable to find a home that will accommodate their pet.

There was a story out some time ago about a single mother who has two kids and was having a lot of trouble finding an apartment to rent because she owned a fairly large dog that had been the pride of the family and late husband. Imaging having to explain to two young kids that had already lost their father that they’ll have to lose their pet too, as well as having to start a new life someplace else.

The dog was well behaved and trained, but it did pose a problem when it came to finding a suitable place to rent from. She was eventually lucky enough to find a landlord who had no problems with dogs and was happy about the idea of putting his large yard to use, along with a payment arrangement which entailed her maintaining the garden landscaping for a reduced rent.

This is not a common solution. She still has to think about what she will have to do if the landlord eventually decides to sell the home, and with increased living costs, it can be a real concern. She hasn’t seen any increase in her salary, so she’s unable to pay more than she already does, and the entire moving process is out of her financial grasp. That’s without mentioning the amount of difficulty that she would have to subject herself to in order to find a place like the one she’s currently at.

Now, if she was a homeowner, then this would be a nonissue for her. She could setup a rent to buy agreement with her landlord. This way she could become an owner instead of just a tenant. Then her only concern would be to keep up with the payments while owning her first home. These arrangements are becoming increasingly more popular as many people see them as a viable alternative to the typical unhelpful attitude of many of these banks who rarely ever care about any of the issues the tenant is currently facing.
