Western apparel isn't the type of garb that you expect to remain clean over the course of a day- at least not if it's being worn for anything close to the manner in which western wear was usually worn- atop horses and working outdoors. Of course, today western wear is worn in many different types of conditions, some of which are decidedly urban. That being said, these are clothes which were meant to get dirty, which means- fortunately for the wearer- that they also hold up well to cleaning. You won't need to take most of your western wear to the dry cleaners, but that doesn't mean that the cleaning process isn't important. Some aspects of western wear- such as cowboy boots and hats- will need special care in order to remain in good condition.

Felt and straw hats and leather cowboy boots have unique care routines that will help to maintain their condition, and it's well worth the time invested to make sure they are properly cared for. It doesn't take much time, when it comes right down to it- and like brushing your teeth, the fairly small amount of time invested will serve you for a long time to come. Some things are really just common sense, such as having proper storage that is dry and cool. Nobody wants a moldy hat or mildewed boots, after all! Conditioning the leather will keep cowboy boots supple and soft, which not only increases their longevity, but also makes them more comfortable to wear (stiff brittle leather isn't exactly what you want on your feet). It's also a matter of really valuing your investment. Assuming that you went out and purchased a well-made high quality item, you probably desire for that item to remain in good condition for some time to come, both because you like it and because you value both the item itself and the money you invested in it.

For those who wear such items as a part of their daily life, the care routine might already be ingrained. For those who are looking at western apparel with an outsider's eye- think of the way a cowboy carefully tended his horse, cleaned his gun, always hung up his hat or set it somewhere safe and recognize that caring for your belongings could be considered part of the territory when it comes to western wear. Self reliance, a big theme in westerns, would include such activities that are necessary for getting along in the world. Besides, taking care of your western wear can be a meditative time that you enjoy as an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Author Resource:- If you're not sure exactly how to care for your western wear or cowboy boots, check with quality boot makers or ask your boot retailer. The Boot Store not only sells cowboy boots, but can help answer your questions about caring for your western apparel, since depending on what kind of leather or other materials used in your apparel will determine what kind of conditioning or care it needs.
