Cowboy boots have a distinct and traceable history in the American west, going back to the days of the cattle drives. The cattle drives began taking place after the civil war began in 1866. Trails brought cattle up from grazing lands in Texas to the rail towns further north so that the cattle could be shipped back east to processing plants that would then distribute the beef to the hungry, growing population. Western wear at the time did not include cowboy boots as we know them today. Most people were wearing military style riding boots at the start of the drives, but by the end, cowboy boots had been commissioned and were beginning to reach a larger audience. Western apparel as we know it today has a lot in common with what was worn in the time between those cattle drives and now, in part because the conditions for which it was developed still remain much the same.

A rider today has many of the same concerns in the saddle, so there have been few changes on the fundamental or structural level of cowboy boots and most western wear. Of course, these days you've also got dressy western wear, expensive boots made of ostrich leather, or many other exotic leathers to choose from that were not available in the early years of western apparel, so it is certainly easy to see where there have been areas of evolution and growth within the genre. After all, these days you have a lot more nightlife available to you than they did in the early cow towns, and there was virtually no socialization on the cattle drives besides the other cowboys working with you. Of course, the open range isn't open anymore either, so it isn't like the old days where one could spend weeks on the trail without seeing a hint of civilization. Also, in many cases today, western apparel and particularly cowboy boots are found in more urban settings where they may never see a saddle or cattle.

Western wear has been popularized by films several times, each time with a different take on the genre. Every time this happens, western apparel becomes more popular in the ready-to-wear clothing markets across the country. While it needs no help in communities where it is already part of the culture and the norm to wear, western wear certainly cycles in and out of popular style in the rest of the country where it is more of a fashion trend or novelty. In these cases, having big screen movies which normally spark celebrity and runway fashion taking note of western styles helping to bring the fashion to the everyday wardrobe, where it will remain for a period of time before being replaced with the next big fashion wave, but only to hopefully reappear some decades later in a slightly altered way.
Author Resource:- It is easy to trace back the history of cowboy boots and western apparel to the early cattle drives in America's then Wild West. Cowboy boots, as we know them, were not available when the cowboy occupation first developed, but it didn't take long before the first pair of cowboy boots were commissioned. Cowboy boots have found popularity outside of western communities as well, thanks in part to western films, western apparel has had varying times of high fashion popularity. Cowboy boots are the exception because they are so versatile for fashion and function, the Boot Store has a variety and selection of western wear and cowboy boots to fit every need- work and play.
