CRM, or customer relationship management, is something new for businesses to take into consideration, though it has always been an important part of doing business. The relationship that businesses build with customers is what keeps customers coming back and referring the business to others. In a world where there is more competition than ever, and more opportunities than ever for the customer to find a company that offers something more, each interaction with a business is vitally important.

Though many businesses have moved away from the business model that allows for unique, handshake style business, this does not mean that the relationship with those customers is anything less than important. You may not be greeting customers at the front door to your business establishment and you may not know them by name, but they are important and building a relationship with those customers is what will keep your business moving forward. The question many people have, then, is how to build such a customer relationship if those one on one interactions are no longer easily obtained by the business or by the customer?

As you take into consideration how you work right now and how you can build relationships with those around you, it makes sense to incorporate the use of social media and social networking. It is necessary to focus on communication that is not sales like but more about building relationships and interacting with customers. Take into consideration what this type of interaction can offer to your business. It could mean spending less on overall marketing since your customers will return to you more frequently, reducing your need to draw in a fresh stream of customers each time.
