Bournemouth is a delightful seaside town in the county of Dorset in south west England, with a population of around 164,000 people. It is a popular place to live or visit for a wide variety of different reasons. People in the creative industries will often travel to the town from other parts of the country and stay in a rented apartment so that they can get on with their work in a stimulating environment. Writers are a major category of such creative people, but other categories would include designers, directors and other people involved in the visual arts such as sculpting, painting, modeling, ballet, plays, TV shows and movies.

The sea and everything associated with it can be a great inspiration to a writer, taking the mind to many different places in a quite unique way. The rolling waves which crash into the shore during storms will inspire many dramatic thoughts and feelings, just as the gentle waves during pleasant summer days on the Bournemouth coast will trigger a different universe of thoughts which will be characterized by calmness and harmony. Morning mists which inhabit the coastal areas after dawn will inspire thoughts of mystery. Writers will therefore often rent a flat close to the beaches of Bournemouth to enable them to walk by the sea whenever they wish to.

Writers will often listen to the radio while they work. Bournemouth is served by many good radio stations such as The Bay 102.8, BIRst, Fire Radio, Heart – South Coast, and 90.1 Hope FM. Some writers will prefer to hear the spoken word while they work. This kind of listening is supplied by phone-in shows, rolling news programmes, discussion shows, plays and narrated novels. Other writers will prefer to hear music for inspiration. Classical music can be a great companion while working, and studies have shown that such music is good for mental processes. But jazz, country, rock, soul, R&B and other genres of music are often playing in the background while writers are at work in their rented apartments.

In a similar vein to the above, writers will often seek inspiration by watching television, or have the television on in the background while they work, or watch a local television channel for information on the town or city that they are living in. Examples of local television channels in the town of Bournemouth are Bournemouth TV, ITV West Country, and BBC South West. Similarly, writers will often look at local newspapers like the Bournemouth Advertiser and the Daily Echo for information and research purposes.

Like most people in the world in all walks of life, many writers these days use the internet to research what they are working on, and writers are usually highly curious and resourceful people. This is what makes them good writers who will create interesting, well-researched written work. It is therefore likely that the local websites such as www.bournemouth.co.uk and www.bournemouth.gov.uk would be of great interest to writers, as would www.bournemouth.com and www.bournemouthecho.co.uk which are packed full of useful information.
