There are many different types of insurance available, the idea being that you make small monthly payments to cover a situation in the future that could happen and cause a situation of loss. One example of loss could be damage to a motor bike, a car or a boat, requiring repairs to be paid for. Tenant insurance is a popular example of a way that people protect themselves in the world of property. There are many other different types of insurance schemes in the property sector which are for the benefit of both property owners and the people who are renting or leasing properties.

Tenants of rented residential property can certainly benefit from tenant insurance. This may not be well understood by many people who are currently living in rented residential properties. Such people may believe that their landlord will cover anything that goes wrong in the property that they are renting. The landlord will deal with certain things that may go wrong with a rented property, but they will not deal with every eventuality.

If you are renting residential property, one of the main reasons for taking out tenant insurance is to cover your personal belongings that you keep there. These would include electronic items like televisions, DVD players, gaming consoles, laptops, digital cameras and mobile phones. Other personal belongings could include clothing items such as dresses, suits, shirts and shoes. Jewellery is just the kind of item that needs to be insured. Examples of jewellery items could include earrings, bracelets, finger rings, brooches and necklaces.

This kind of tenant insurance is called tenant's contents insurance. A tenant's personal belongings could become lost or damaged due to a whole host of reasons. Belongings may be stolen or rendered unusable through a whole variety of reasons. It could be that someone breaks in and steals some of your valuables, or they are stolen by a guest in your home or someone who comes in under the pretence of selling something.

Another important reason to consider getting tenant insurance if you are renting residential property is that you will be covered if you cause any damage to the property that you are renting. This kind of insurance would cover the policy holder if there was a mishap in the house. Such damage can occur accidentally but the cost to make repairs could be a great deal of money. For example you could drop a large dish of curry onto a beautiful fitted white carpet, and the stain may not be removable.

The above kind of tenant insurance is called tenant's liability insurance. Another way that people may cause damage to a property that they are renting is by having wild parties with unruly guests. Such guests may break the furniture when larking about. They may and stain the wallpaper by spilling drinks or food on it. They may damage carpets by dropping lit cigarettes onto them. The costs to put such things right could be very large indeed.
