What is a pillow?

A pillow by definition is a cushion for the head; soft support for the head usually used in bed to support the head and referred to as a sealed fabric bag stuffed with feathers or synthetic fillers.

There are pillows to throw, pillows to lie on, pillows for the floor, pillows for the derriere, pillows for the body and pillows to cushion the head. There are fat pillows, thin pillows, big pillows and small ones. Pillows come in all kinds of shapes like crescent moons, sunken centers, like waves in the sea and cheese wedges, but the most famous of all is a plain pillow; a soft supportive cushion for the head which most often is referred to as a Down Pillow.

Not all pillows are created equally.

Good pillows result in a good night's sleep. Hypoallergenic Down and synthetic down Primaloft pillows help relieve allergy triggers promoting a more restful uninterrupted sleep. Down and Primaloft pillows breathe, are light and airy, durable yet plush comforting support for the head and neck. Primaloft pillows are hypoallergenic and have water resistant fibers that retain their loft through repeated washings, yet dry quickly making them easy to care for.

Primaloft pillows closely imitate down pillows in that the micro fibers are soft and silky creating that Down feeling. Down and Primaloft clusters are blown into pillows and comforters. Primaloft is the only patented alternative to Down. A Primaloft Pillow will not last as long as a Down Pillow (2 to 3 years or approximately 1/3 the life of a down pillow) but is usually priced comparatively.

A Primaloft Pillow comes in two firmnesses, determined by the amount of fill. A Down Pillow's firmness is determined by the ratio of feather type mix. Down pillows, because of the feathers ability to retain their shape, conform to the contour of the neck yet hold shape to fully support the head in a comfortable position. Nothing retains maximum warmth, volume and firmness more than the perfect ratio mixture of down and feathers.

The Finishing Touch

What should top the perfect Down Pillow or Primaloft Pillow? When you choose the very best in fill quality you should expect the very best Finishing Touch in casing, with the key word being touch. A quality pillow made of Primaloft or Down should be made of Egyptian cotton, which has a thread count of 300 or Organic cotton, unbleached cotton and cotton (ticking) with an average thread count of 240. It is soft yet durable; the feeling your head and neck can't wait to touch!

Have You Noticed?

Have you ever noticed that some people will not leave home without their pillow? They carry them on jets, in the car, to grandma's house, to the motel, to the office, to the couch to watch television. They literally carry them everywhere! If you're not one of those people, wouldn't you want to know why they are so attached to their pillows? The next time you see one of these bright eyed, bushy tailed people with a pillow in tote, ask them what kind of pillow they have. One can almost be assured they will call it by name, either a feather Down or Primaloft.
